The Game:

Summary:

FIRST STEAMWORKS, the 2017 FIRST Robotics Competition game, invites two adventurers’ clubs, in an era where steam power reigns, to prepare their airships for a long distance race. Played on a 27' x 54' field each three-team alliance prepares in three ways:

- Build steam pressure. Robots collect fuel (balls) and score it in their boiler via high and low efficiency goals. Boilers turn fuel into steam pressure which is stored in the steam tank on their airship – but it takes more fuel in the low efficiency goal to build steam than the high efficiency goal.

- Start rotors. Robots deliver gears to pilots on their airship for installation. Once the gear train is complete, they turn the crank to start the rotor.

- Prepare for flight. Robots must latch on to their airship before launch (the end of the match) by ascending their ropes to signal that they’re ready for takeoff.

• Dimensions at start of game 112" robot perimeter. 60" tall
• Robot may not extend more than 20" outside the frame perimeter during the match
• Weight not to exceed 120 pounds, excluding batteries and bumpers.

Drive Train:

-Eight wheel 4” colson drive with 2 andymark CIMple Gear boxes geared for 13 feet per second
-Short Configuration 36 in. by 40 in. by 24 in. tall
-Modified Andymark Kitbot Chassis

Sub-Systems

Gear Bucket V.1:

Passive gear bucket that allowed tight access making room for ball hopper

Gear Bucket V.2:
Fully passive system with gear ramp from the front of robot stretching to back of robot where the bucket was located. This allowed for easy and quick gear pickup.

Climber:
1 70:1 VersaPlanetary with a 775 Pro with a ½ hex shaft. A shaft coupler connected the climber hex shaft and ½ hex bore to create the 5 second climb. Velcro on the shaft with a velcro rope.

Intake/Elevator:
Surgical tubing intake powered by a 30:1 VP with a 775pro
Poly cord elevator powered by the front intake

Shooter:
2 775 pros connected to a dual input VP and a 3:1 outer stage
Fixed hood configured for boiler shot.

Hopper/Agitator:
45 ball capacity
Back feed wheel connected to a 30:1 VP powered by a 775pro
Agitator wheel connected to a 100:1 VP powered by a bag motor
